The invention discloses a polyvinyl alcohol fiber suitable for concrete and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: dissolving a polyvinyl alcohol raw material and additives in pure water to form a polyvinyl alcohol spinning solution, and carrying out solidification molding, hygrothermal stretching and heat treatment on the polyvinyl alcohol spinning solution to obtain the polyvinyl alcohol fiber suitable for concrete, wherein the additives comprise boric acid, acetic acid, PEG2000, polyoxyethylene fatty amine ether and amide additives. The polyvinylalcohol fiber prepared by the method is high in strength, good in mechanical property and good in dispersity; the short fibers can be uniformly dispersed in the concrete material; the fiber can improve the toughness and impact strength level shock resistance of building materials, has good weather resistance, can effectively control cracks of mortar and concrete caused by plastic shrinkage, temperature change and other factors, prevents and inhibits the formation and development of the cracks, and can be widely used in concrete, cement products and other special fields.
