The invention relates to a slotted wall gripper and method for creating a slot in the ground, wherein the slotted wall gripper has a gripper frame, and two gripper blades are arranged at the lower endof the gripper frame; by means of an actuating device, the slotted wall gripper can be adjusted between an open position for picking up soil material and a closed position for removing soil materialpicked up from the slot, the slotted wall gripper is introduced essentially vertically into a floor with open grab shovels, the grab shovels are closed for gripping and picking up soil material and the slotted wall gripper with the picked up floor material is pulled out of the ground to form the slot. According to the slotted wall gripper, an actual amount of soil material is determined by means of a determination device which is picked up by the gripper shovels in the closed position, and the determination device is connected to a control unit. A control unit compares the detected actual amount of land material with a predetermined target amount and, when the detected actual amount deviates from the stored target amount, emits a signal for repeating the gripping process.
