The invention provides a composite graphite electrode and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: S1, a step of burdening; S2, a step of mixing, kneading and forming to obtain a green body; S3, a step of roasting and dipping, comprising S31, roasting the kneaded green body, putting the roasted green body into an impregnation container, and filling the impregnation container with impregnation liquid A which is prepared from, by weight, 90-95 parts of coal pitch, 5-8 parts of oleic acid and 2-3 parts of silicon carbide, and S32, roasting the impregnated green body, then putting the roasted green body into an impregnation container, filling the impregnation container with impregnation liquid B which is prepared from, by weight, 90-95 parts of coal pitch, 2-3 parts of oleic acid and 4-8 parts of silicon carbide; and S4, a step of graphitizing to obtain the composite graphite electrode. According to the composite graphite electrode and the preparation method thereof, the prepared graphite electrode is high in oxidation resistance and long in service lifetime, and the production cost of enterprises can be reduced.
