The invention relates to the technical field of color sand, in particular to a preparation method of color sand and a product of the color sand. The preparation method of the color sand comprises thefollowing steps: (1) preparation of a base material premix: selecting and screening the base material, and then mixing to obtain the base material premix, (2) preparation of color paste: mixing waterglass, kaolin, borax, metal salt, inorganic pigment and water, and carrying out ball milling for 1-2 hours to obtain the color paste, (3) coloring of the base material premix: mixing the prepared color paste with the base material premix in a rotary drum furnace, and calcining, and (4) high-temperature sintering and cooling: calcining the base material premix attached with the color paste at 600-1100 DEG C for 25-50 minutes, sending the calcined base material premix to an outlet of a calcining furnace at the temperature of 300-800 DEG C, and cooling to 80-90 DEG C, so that the product is obtained.
