The invention relates to a tamping wagon suitable for turnout operation and a corresponding operation method thereof. The tamping wagon comprises a wagon body, a track lifting and lining device (7) and a tamping device (8), the track lifting and lining device (7) is connected to the lower part of the wagon body, the tamping device (8) is connected to a rotary transverse moving frame (9), and the rotary transverse moving frame (9) is connected to the wagon body; and the tamping device (8) is of a vertically-arranged eccentric vibration shaft structure and is installed on the rotary transverse moving frame, and a transverse moving device of the rotary transverse moving frame is of a movable fulcrum structure. A working device of the tamping wagon, especially the track lifting and lining device, the tamping device and the rotary transverse moving frame, has the advantages of simple and compact structure, reliable work, wide operation range, high engineering application value and the like.The problems that an existing turnout tamping wagon working device is not compact in structure, complex in operation, small in working range and the like are solved.
