The invention discloses an outdoor fire hydrant Internet of Things monitoring system and method. The monitoring system comprises a communication layer for data transmission, an intelligent fire-fighting cloud platform for monitoring state data of an outdoor fire hydrant, and carrying out analysis and processing on the data, and a data presentation layer for displaying the state data. The monitoring system further comprises a collection layer used for collecting the state of the outdoor fire hydrant, and the collection layer is connected with the intelligent fire-fighting cloud platform througha communication layer. The collection layer comprises a data collection terminal used for collecting outdoor fire hydrant state information; a battery electric quantity detection chip connected witha power supply and used for detecting the current residual electric quantity of a storage battery; and a single-chip microcomputer connected with the battery electric quantity detection chip. The electric quantity detection chip is adopted to measure the residual electric quantity of the storage battery, the dormancy time of a data collection terminal mainboard is dynamically adjusted according tothe residual electric quantity value, the problem of insufficient power supply of the storage battery can be solved, and the effect that long-term operation of the data collection terminal on the outdoor fire hydrant is guaranteed is achieved.
