The invention relates to a filter element (3) for a particulate filter (1), the element comprising a porous filter body (4) which is made of a ceramic material and has a plurality of fluidically parallel ducts (7). According to the invention, in at least some of the ducts (7), the filter body (4) has a coating (21) made of a coating material which differs from the ceramic material and consists oforthorhombic crystals. The invention further relates to a particulate filter (1), a process for manufacturing a filter element (3), and the use of a coating material for coating a filter element.
