The invention relates to a viscous damper with a magnetic grid positioning device and a displacement calculation method of the viscous damper, and relates to the technical field of dampers. The viscous damper comprises an oil cylinder; a piston rod which is movably inserted into the oil cylinder; the first magnetic grid positioning device which is positioned outside any end of the oil cylinder, and is configured to generate a corresponding electric signal according to the movement condition of the piston rod relative to the oil cylinder; and a signal processing device which is in signal connection with the first magnetic grid positioning device, wherein the signal processing device cooperates with the first magnetic grid positioning device to measure the displacement condition of the piston rod relative to the oil cylinder. The absolute position and the relative motion state of the piston rod of the damper are automatically detected by utilizing the characteristic that the change of the magnetic field causes the change of the potential difference on the magnetic grid positioning device, so that the reliability, the stability and the accuracy of displacement measurement are improved.
