The invention discloses a building thermal insulation material and a preparation method thereof. The building thermal insulation material is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 10-20 parts of cement, 15-25 parts of fly ash, 5-10 parts of a molecular sieve, 3-5 parts of hollow glass fibers, 2-4 parts of rare earth oxide nano porous aerogel, 1-4 parts of alpha-ferric oxide nano hollow spheres, 8-12 parts of scrapped aluminum oxide foamed ceramic powder, 1-3 parts of rosin polyether sulfonate, 6-8 parts of sulfonated dihydroxypropyl chitosan modified polyurethane, and 0.3-0.8 part of a foaming agent. The invention also provides a preparation method of the building thermal insulation material. The building thermal insulation material provided by the invention is remarkable in thermal insulation effect, high in compressive strength, safe and environment-friendly to use and good in comprehensive performance and performance stability.
