The invention relates to a system and method for controlling opening of a vehicle window. The system comprises an information acquisition unit, a calculation unit and an execution unit, wherein the information acquisition unit is configured to acquire gesture information; the calculation unit is configured to determine the vehicle window pointed by the gesture and a position indicated by the gesture based on the gesture information; the target opening degree of the vehicle window is calculated based on the position indicated by the gesture; and the execution unit is configured to control the vehicle window to be opened to the target opening degree. According to the system and method for controlling the opening of the vehicle window, the opening of the vehicle window can be automatically adjusted by recognizing the vehicle window pointed by the gesture of the user and the pointed position.
