The invention discloses a castable special for a heat preservation steel ladle cover and a ladle cover manufacturing method, and the castable is prepared from 70% of first-grade high bauxite clinker (15% of granular materials with the granularity of 10-6 mm, 25% of granular materials with the granularity of 6-3 mm, 15% of granular materials with the granularity of 3-1 mm and 15% of granular materials with the granularity of 1-0 mm), 5% of spinel powder, 16% of first-grade aluminum powder, 2% of electric smelting magnesium powder, 0.5% of metal aluminum powder, 0.4% of Na2HCO3, 1% of azoamide, 3% of Secar 71 cement, 2% of sodium metasilicate nonahydrate, and 0.1% of explosion-proof fiber. When in use, the raw materials are accurately weighed and uniformly premixed, water accounting for 7% of the total weight of the mixture is added, the mixture is stirred to form a castable, the castable is poured into a ladle cover model for prefabrication forming, and a ladle cover finished product is obtained after normal-temperature maintenance is performed for 24 hours. After casting molding, baking is not needed, moisture can be rapidly removed through natural drying, and the ladle cover is firmer, free of cracks and peeling, resistant to high-temperature invasion and thermal shock and capable of adapting to high-temperature changes of steel ladles; and the service life of the ladle cover is twice that of a common ladle cover, and material cost is saved.
