The invention discloses a novel protection structure for a side slope of an earthquake-prone zone. Slope surface protection and slope body reinforcement of the side slope is realized by coordinating and combining an initiative protective net and a pre-stressed anchor cable, and an energy dissipation device is internally provided to allow certain displacement deformation during an earthquake so as to realize an earthquake-resistant function, the invention provides performance parameters and geometric parameters of the energy dissipation device, key construction steps of the protection structure are provided, anchor holes of pre-stressed anchor cables are positioned and drilled, meanwhile anchor cables and anchor bundles of the anchor cables are manufactured, an SNS initiative protective network is laid and the SNS initiative protective network is fixed by adopting short anchor rods, the anchor cable and anchor bundles are anchored to a drill hole, a steel casing used for dividing the anchor bundles and a hard rubber gasket (plate) is installed, the rubber gasket (plate) is installed, pre-stressed anchor cable anchorage piers are constructed and tensioning equipment are constructed in place, the position of the initiative protective network is adjusted, the anchor cable is tensioned and the anchor is sealed, and finally, the initiative protective net is adjusted, tensioned and fixed.
