The invention relates to the technical field of urban rainwater management, in particular to a rainwater retention system. The rainwater retention system comprises a covering layer, a soil medium layer and a drainage layer which are arranged from top to bottom. The covering layer comprises a plurality of covering layer recycled aggregate particles, the soil medium layer comprises a soil medium recycled aggregate assembly and a landscaping waste compost product assembly, and the drainage layer comprises a plurality of drainage recycled aggregate particles. According to the rainwater retention system, arrangement of a transition layer is avoided, the drainage pipe does not need to be wrapped by geotechnical cloth, the overall structure is simple, it can be guaranteed that the emptying time of the system at the initial operation stage reaches 1-3 h, soil particle loss can be prevented, the blocking risk is low, the failure risk is small, and plant growth can be guaranteed.
