The invention further provides a sewage treatment method using the purification riverbed and application of the purification riverbed. The purification reaction function of the purification riverbed is long-acting and stable, the removal rate of pollutants such as total phosphorus, ammonia nitrogen and the like can reach 70%-95%, the effluent standard is not lower than the surface IV, and the purification riverbed is wide in application range, is particularly applied to an ecological restoration technical system for seawater pollution caused by the fact that terrestrial pollution is transferred to a sea area through a sea-entering river, and the method has the advantages of high efficiency, energy conservation, low influence and green ecology.
