The invention relates to the technical field of heat preservation and heat insulation of buildings, in particular to lightweight aerogel which comprises a raw material A and a raw material B, the mass ratio of the raw material A to the raw material B is 3: 1; the raw material A comprises the following parts in parts by weight: 153-163 parts of purified water, 45-55 parts of magnesium oxide and 45-55 parts of mica; the mass ratio of magnesium oxide to mica is 1: 1; the raw material B comprises the following parts in parts by weight: 155-161 parts of purified water and 1.6-7.6 parts of an expanding agent; the expanding agent comprises the following parts in parts by weight: 15-20 parts of polyvinyl alcohol; 5-10 parts of glyoxal, 70-78 parts of water, 0.1-1.8 parts of acetic acid and 0.05-0.25 part of antioxidant. The aerogel provided by the invention has the advantages of small volume weight and favorable heat-conducting property, and can meet the requirements of building construction on filled thermal insulation materials.
