The invention discloses a lightweight gypsum board and belongs to the technical field of building materials. The lightweight gypsum board comprises a gypsum board core formed between two parallel covering materials, the gypsum board core is made of gypsum-containing slurry, and the gypsum-containing slurry comprises water, building gypsum powder, native starch, sodium sulfosuccinate, sodium alkyl benzene sulfonate, sodium trimetaphosphate and glass fibers; and the volume content of gaps in a range of 1-5 microns in the gypsum board core is controlled to be less than 8% of the total volume of the gaps. Sodium trimetaphosphate is a conventional additive in the field of gypsum boards, and can enhance the strength, permanent deformation resistance, dimensional stability and other properties of gypsum green bodies. The glass fiber is also a conventional reinforcing material in the field of gypsum boards, and can improve the strength of the gypsum board and improve the bonding force in the gypsum board core. A facing material may be formed from any suitable material, including but not limited to facing paper, plastic wallpaper, aluminum foil, fibrous mats, and the like.
