The invention discloses a bridge and culvert protection system based on an electronic light curtain. The system comprises vehicle height detection equipment which is disposed at an entrance of a bridge and culvert, and is used for detecting whether a vehicle entering the bridge and culvert exceeds a preset height or not, and outputting an ultrahigh signal; a controller is connected with the vehicle height detection equipment, outputs an alarm signal according to the ultrahigh signal, and outputs an image collection instruction when the vehicle exceeding the preset height drives into the bridge and culvert; an electronic light curtain generation equipment is connected with the controller, is arranged at the entrance of the bridge and culvert, generates an electronic light curtain in front of the vehicle exceeding the preset height after receiving the alarm signal, and generates and sends a vehicle entry signal when the vehicle exceeding the preset height enters the bridge and culvert; an image collection equipment is used for collecting vehicle information of vehicles exceeding the preset height and bridge and culvert images. The ultrahigh vehicle input into the bridge and culvert is pre-warned. When the vehicle drives into the bridge and culvert, the ultrahigh vehicle driving into the bridge and culvert violating rules is photographed and captured for evidence obtaining, and the safety management level of the bridge and culvert and protection facilities of the bridge and culvert is improved.
