An electrically operated swing door actuation system for moving a closure member and a method therefor. The system comprises an electric actuator used for causing movement of the closure member; a virtual handle sensor used for detecting at least one of a hand and a gesture near a virtual handle assembly; and a control unit configured to receive authentication information and control the electric actuator to use the virtual handle sensor to move a closure plate without the need of contact between the hand and the closure plate.
