The method comprises the steps of: spraying a sodium lignin sulfonate solution into a balling disc containing ball seeds, adding rho-aluminum oxide quick-release powder for balling while the balling disc continuously rotates, and sieving the balls after balling is completed; aging the prepared alumina balls at 50-100 DEG C for 12-48 hours, and then drying the alumina balls at 100-150 DEG C for 1-6 hours; and finally, roasting the alumina balls in a nitrogen atmosphere to obtain mesoporous alumina balls with high specific surface area. The preparation method of the mesoporous alumina balls with high specific surface area is simple to operate, easy to implement, low in drying temperature and low in equipment requirement, aging conditions are easy to reach, only one-time roasting is carried out in a nitrogen atmosphere, heating in an oxygen atmosphere is not needed, and the preparation method is suitable for industrial popularization and production.
