The invention discloses a high-dielectric-constant X8R type barium titanate-based dielectric material and a preparation method thereof, wherein the high-dielectric-constant X8R type barium titanate-based dielectric material takes 100 parts by weight of barium titanate as a main base material, and 1.1-2.4 parts by weight of a co-melt I and 0.1-0.6 part by weight of a co-melt II are added; the co-melt I is a co-melt formed by an oxide of a tantalum element and an oxide of an A element, and the co-melt II is a co-melt of silicon, boron, bismuth and lithium, wherein the element A is one or more of cobalt, magnesium, nickel and zirconium. The high-dielectric-constant X8R type barium titanate-based dielectric material is prepared by adopting a traditional solid phase method process, the process is simple, the cost is low, and the prepared dielectric material has the characteristics of high dielectric constant, large working temperature range and low dielectric loss, and has relatively high industrialization prospect and industrial application value.
