The invention relates to a door handle assembly (100) that includes a housing (102), a handle (104), a switch assembly (106), and a switch starter (114). The housing (102) has a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The handle (104) is movably mounted to the housing (102) on a first side. Further, a switch assembly (106) is mounted to the housing on the second side and operably coupled to the handle. The switch assembly (106) includes a switch (108) and a connector. A switch (108) is disposed away from the handle (104) and is actuatable by the handle (104). The connector (110) is connected to the switch (108) and operably connected to the control unit (112). The switch starter (114) is configured to actuate the switch (108) upon movement of the handle (104).
