Low-energy electrically operated latch actuator
An electrically operated latch actuator comprises a housing, a motor, a worm, an output rack, an output pin and a transmission gear, wherein the motor is fixed to the housing and is provided with a motor output shaft configured to rotate when power is applied to the motor; the worm fixed to the motor output shaft to rotate therewith; the output rack is mounted on the housing in a sliding manner; the output pin operably connected to the output rack for movement therewith; and the transmission gear comprises a worm gear having helical teeth operably connected to the worm, and an output gear having straight teeth operably connected to the output rack, and the worm gear and the output gear are connected to each other on a pivot to rotate together. The motor is operable to rotate the worm, the worm gear, the output gear, the output rack, and the output pin from respective first positions to respective second positions when power is applied. The worm gear and the output gear may include a single molded part. The worm and worm gear are configured to be backwards drivable by a force applied to the worm gear to drive them from respective second positions to their respective first positions.
