The invention discloses a roof assembly which comprises a waterproof plate assembly located at the bottom and a bearing plate assembly located at the top, a plurality of steel truss assemblies are connected between the bearing plate assembly and the waterproof plate assembly, and the waterproof plate assembly and the truss assemblies are fixedly connected through expansion bolts; the waterproof plate assembly comprises a concrete protection layer and a waterproof roll layer arranged at the bottom of the concrete protection layer. The bearing plate assembly comprises a stainless steel top plate and a plurality of soil retaining plates arranged on the top face of the stainless steel top plate in a protruding mode, and a planting gap where planting soil and/or flowerpots can be arranged is formed between every two adjacent soil retaining plates. The invention further discloses a building applying the roof assembly.
