The invention discloses a method for synthesizing magnesium aluminate spinel from waste magnesium and alumina carbon bricks. The method specifically comprises the following steps in sequence: impurity removal of waste magnesium and alumina carbon bricks, crushing, addition of a sintering aid and a water-based adhesive, stirring, pelletizing, primary calcination synthesis, secondary crushing, secondary addition of the aid and the water-based adhesive, secondary stirring, secondary pelletizing and secondary calcination synthesis. Mixed bricks of waste magnesia carbon bricks and alumina carbon bricks do not need to be sorted; the treatment difficulty caused by unstable manual component selection is greatly reduced; the value of the used magnesia carbon brick and alumina carbon brick can be greatly improved; the rotary kiln has the advantage of environmental protection; the method is suitable for treating waste magnesia carbon bricks and alumina carbon bricks; the transfer cost is reduced; and synthesizing magnesium-aluminum-containing spinel, magnesium-rich spinel or aluminum-rich spinel according to the components of the mixed brick.
