The invention provides a preparation method of bismuth oxide coated YSZ (Yttria Stabilized Zirconia) powder, which comprises the following steps: step 1, adding bismuth nitrate or hydrate thereof into a concentrated nitric acid solution to form a solution with the Bi < 3 + > concentration of 0.001 mol/L-2mol/L; step 2, adding urea, YSZ powder and PVP into an ethylene glycol solution, and magnetically stirring to form a homogeneous solution; step 3, mixing the solution prepared in the step 1 with the solution prepared in the step 2 to form a homogeneous solution; step 4, transferring the solution in the step 3 into a hydrothermal reaction kettle, reacting to obtain a mixture, and cooling to room temperature; step five, carrying out centrifugal washing on the mixture prepared in the step four to obtain a precipitate, and drying to obtain Bi2O3 precursor coated YSZ powder; and step 6, calcining the YSZ powder coated with the Bi2O3 precursor in the step 5 for 1 to 10 hours at the temperature of 200 to 800 DEG C, so as to obtain the YSZ powder coated with bismuth oxide. According to the method disclosed by the invention, the nano Bi2O3 coated YSZ powder with uniform distribution and large specific surface area can be prepared, the process is simple and efficient, and the operation is easy to control.
