Self-powered building unit
The present disclosure provides a building unit comprising a first light transmissive panel and a second light transmissive panel. The first panel defines a light receiving surface. The building unit also includes structures that support the panels in spaced apart relationship to form cavities between the panels. Further, the building unit includes one or more photovoltaic cells disposed within the cavity adjacent the structure. The building unit further comprises an arrangement supported by the structure for redirecting sunlight of an invisible wavelength incident on or through the light receiving surface towards the structure in a direction generally transverse to the plane of the unit for collection by the one or more photovoltaic elements. Further, the building unit comprises one or more electrically powered devices located within the cavity and arranged to receive power generated by the one or more photovoltaic cells.
