A formulation containing a polymer, a resin and cement in combination with an aggregate can be applied by dry spray, the dry sprayable material being sprayed to the surface of a target object by being pneumatically conveyed in dry basis form to a nozzle for mixing with water. The polymer in the dry spray material enables it to adhere and bond to a surface of an inner liner of a container for containing molten metal, such as a carbon brick. The formulations may be used, for example, to repair and protect blast furnace hearth liners.
