The invention relates to the technical field of light building materials. The novel light wallboard material is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by mass: 10 to 15 parts of polystyrene particles, 180 to 230 parts of cement, 50 to 60 parts of slag, 20 to 40 parts of magnesium trisilicate, 20 to 50 parts of sand, 200 to 230 parts of water, 20 to 40 parts of straw, 15 to 20 parts of a gel material and 12 to 16 parts of an additive, the slag is prepared by uniformly mixing coal ash, broken stone and coal cinder, and the additive is prepared by uniformly mixing coal ash, broken stone and coal cinder. According to the novel light wallboard material for the prefabricated building and the preparation method thereof, the slag and the straw are used for replacing part of cement, the weight of a wallboard is reduced, part of cost is saved, and through cooperative use of magnesium trisilicate and polystyrene particles, the utilization rate of the wallboard is increased. The fire resistance and the water absorption of the light wallboard material can be effectively improved, so that the light wallboard material has the excellent properties of energy conservation, environmental protection, light weight, fire prevention, water prevention and the like.
