The invention provides a construction method for a steel box template of an overpass existing line gate type pier, which comprises the following steps of: longitudinally segmenting a to-be-constructed steel box template according to a first preset requirement, and dividing the to-be-constructed steel box template into two steel support leg sections and a plurality of steel cross beam sections; the two steel supporting leg sections and the multiple steel cross beam sections are spliced to form a gate-type pier steel box formwork body; two pier columns are installed at preset positions, and an embedded steel cylinder is installed at the top of each pier column; hoisting the gate-type pier steel box template main body until the gate-type pier steel box template main body is connected with the embedded steel cylinder; a bent cap steel bar, a prestressed steel strand and a prestressed pipeline are installed in the gate-type pier steel box formwork body; performing concrete pouring on the gate-type pier steel box template main body in batches according to a second preset requirement; and synchronously carrying out pre-stress construction on the pre-stress steel strands in batches. The steel box formwork is adopted as a concrete cast-in-place support, the steel box formwork and part of steel bars are hoisted synchronously, the construction period is greatly shortened, the safety risk is greatly reduced, and compared with a steel cover beam, the manufacturing cost is low, and durability is high.
