The invention provides a rainwater collection pool suitable for a sponge city and a construction method thereof.The rainwater collection pool comprises a collection pool body, the collection pool body comprises a storage pool body, a backwashing device is arranged on the collection pool body, a concrete layer is arranged on the storage pool body, a composite impermeable layer is arranged on the periphery of the storage pool body, and the collection pool is communicated with a plurality of overflow wells; a sewage intercepting basket is arranged on the overflow well close to the collecting pool, a recycling well is arranged on one side of the collecting pool, and a rainwater treatment device is arranged between the recycling well and the collecting pool. The rainwater collecting pool can overcome the defect that rainfall is distributed unevenly along with seasons, rapid drainage can be conducted, rainwater can be collected, and water resources can be recycled; the rainwater collecting pool is fast in construction process, short in required construction period and low in manufacturing cost. The garbage frame is convenient to take out and can be automatically dumped and replaced in time; meanwhile, when water swells in the overflow well, garbage such as plastic bags cannot easily float on the water surface to block the drainage pipe; and the sewage intercepting basket in the overflow well can adjust the rainwater flow rate according to the rainwater flow amount, so that road surface water accumulation is not easily caused.
