The invention relates to a device for covering a surface, comprising: (a) a covering, each longitudinal edge of which is provided with a protruding element (12, 12d); (b) a rotatably mounted reel adapted to wind up or unwind the covering and movable in translation on a track placed on either side of the surface; (c) a system for continuously locking/unlocking the protruding element in the tracks during translation of the reel, wherein the protruding element comprises a plurality of discrete elements (12d) distributed along each longitudinal edge spaced apart from one another by an average distance (d).
