The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a panel having sealed panel edges, comprising at least the steps of: providing an initial panel having a panel upper surface, a panel lower surface and at least one set of opposing panel edges, the initial panel having a carrier core and a printed substrate layer disposed on the panel upper surface; a chamfer is formed between at least one of the opposite panel edges and the upper surface of the panel; the at least one panel edge is sealed, the sealing including impregnation with an impregnating agent applied to the at least one panel edge and the chamfer. The invention also relates to an initial panel produced by this method and to a combination of this panel and a base plate having a decorative side and at least one base plate edge adjacent to the decorative side, the base plate having a carrier core and a printed base plate layer applied to the decorative side, and the base plate edge having an impregnating agent.
