Provided herein are catchment systems, as well as methods of making and using such systems, that capture water from ambient air by using a design that reduces the overall energy cost of the system and improves catchment cycle efficiency. The systems and methods use an adsorbent material, such as a metal-organic frame, to adsorb water from the air. The system and method desorbs this water in the form of water vapor and condenses the water vapor into liquid water and collects. The liquid water is suitable for use as drinking water.
