A cBN sintered body having cubic boron nitride particles and a binder phase, the binder phase containing Ti2CN and Co2B, the ratio of the peak intensities ITi2CN/ICo2B satisfying 0.5-2.0, where ITi2CN is the peak intensity of Ti2CN occurring at 2 [theta] = 41.9-42.2 DEG when measured by XRD, and ICo2B is the peak intensity of Co2B occurring at 2 [theta] = 45.7-45.9 DEG when measured by the same XRD.
