The invention relates to a medicine dispensing cabinet with an emergency release function. The dispensing cabinet may include a safety plate and a plunger having a disengaged position and an engaged position. The plunger may be secured in a disengaged position by a safety plate. The safety plate may be released to transfer the plunger from the disengaged position to the engaged position. The dispensing cabinet may further include a rod configured to interface with the plunger and the one or more latch assemblies. The rod may be displaced upward in response to the plunger being transferred from the disengaged position to the engaged position. Upward movement of the lever may release the one or more latch assemblies by rotating a cam bracket included in each of the one or more latch assemblies to a limit. The dispensing cabinet may be unlocked by releasing the one or more latch assemblies.
