Durable high friction coating (DHFC) for braking applications
Techniques are described for durable high friction coatings (DHFCs) that may be fabricated by mixing a binder, a filler, and one or more additives in liquid form, loading the liquid mixture onto a reel material (metal substrate), and curing for subsequent cutting and/or stamping. The metal substrate having the cured DHFC layer may be cut into a shape to form the brake pad. The water-based adhesive can be used in environmentally-friendly chemicals. In some examples, the binder in the DHFC may be in a range of at least 70 wt% to less than 95 wt%, and the filler is in a range of at least 5 wt% to less than 30 wt%, the elastomeric polymer is in a range of at least 1 wt% to less than 8 wt%, and the rheology modifier is in a range of at least 0.5 wt% to less than 2 wt%.
