Aqueous polymer dispersions
The invention relates to aqueous polymer dispersions obtainable by free-radical aqueous emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers M comprising a) 0.5 to 7.0% by weight, based on the total weight of monomers M, of a combination of a1) at least one monomer Ma1 selected from monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids having 3 to 6 carbon atoms and the salts thereof; a2) at least one monomer Ma2 selected from monoethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids having from 4 to 8 carbon atoms and salts thereof; a3) at least one monomer Ma3 selected from the group consisting of monoethylenically unsaturated monosulfonic acids having 2 to 10 carbon atoms and salts thereof; b1) 60 to 79.45% by weight, based on the total weight of monomer M, of at least one monomer Mb1 selected from nonionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomers having a solubility in deionized water at 25 DEG C and 1 bar of at most 60 g/L and whose homopolymer has a glass transition temperature Tg of at least 50 DEG C; b2) 20 to 39.45% by weight, based on the total weight of monomer M, of at least one monomer Mb2 selected from nonionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomers having a solubility in deionized water at 25 DEG C and 1 bar of at most 60 g/L and whose homopolymer has a glass transition temperature Tg of at most 40 DEG C; c) 0.05 to 2.0 wt% of at least one crosslinking monomer Mc; wherein the aqueous emulsion polymerization is carried out at least partially in the presence of a chain transfer compound. The invention also relates to a method for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion. The aqueous polymer dispersions are useful as binders in aqueous coating formulations, in particular as binders in aqueous coating formulations for shaped mineral articles.
