The invention relates to an automatic monitoring device and method for the displacement of a top slope of a foundation pit, and the device comprises a measuring rod, a laser range finder and a signal processor, and the measuring rod is pressed into a soil body at one side of the top slope of the foundation pit to be fixed; the laser range finder is mounted on one side, far away from the foundation pit, of the measuring rod, is spaced from the measuring rod by a certain distance, and is used for monitoring the horizontal displacement of the measuring rod; a plurality of photoresistors are arranged on the side wall of the measuring rod along the vertical direction, and the plurality of photoresistors are tightly distributed along the vertical direction; the light dependent resistors are all connected to the signal processor through electric wires, and the laser range finder is used for irradiating any light dependent resistor, so that the irradiated light dependent resistor sends out a change signal and transmits the change signal to the signal processor, and the vertical displacement of the measuring rod is monitored; the signal processor is in communication connection with the cloud server and is used for transmitting signals, and displacement monitoring is carried out mainly by using the principle that laser ranging is carried out and the resistance of a photoresistor is reduced when the photoresistor encounters strong light.
