The invention discloses a construction method for forming an underwater forest system through ecological restoration of a river channel. According to the method, the water quality of a construction site is detected in advance, growth of subsequent submerged plants is facilitated, the submerged plants mainly adopt a fork planting method, introduction of algae-eating insects and establishment of wave dissipation facilities are combined, a good foundation is laid for water quality purification of the plants, and the water quality of the submerged plants is purified through microtopography construction, plant partitioning and planting plant variety selection. The system provides a suitable natural environment for plants, and is divided into an emergent aquatic plant area, a high-temperature-season submerged plant area and a low-temperature-season submerged plant area from shallow to deep, so that plants still survive in a water body in winter, and the system can play a role in purifying the water body in four seasons, avoid algal bloom outbreak, reduce eutrophication of the water body and improve the water quality. By selecting cold-resistant hydrilla, dwarf cold-resistant vallisneria spiralis, potamogeton pectinatus, potamogeton malabaricus, vallisneria spiralis, Setaria italica and myriophyllum verticillatum for planting, the system can purify water in autumn and winter and still has ornamental value.
