A method and system for electroslag strip build-up welding (ESSC) of a track head without preheating using a dual electroslag strip welding technique. The dual ESSC technique includes depositing a layer of wear and corrosion resistant build-up material over the entire running surface of the railhead at a relatively fast welding speed of about 60 cm/min with a deformation of less than 1 cm/m. Welding speed is achieved by moving the dual ESSC welding head along the track, wherein the running surface of the track head faces upward; or advancing the track through the space below the dual ESSC welding head to achieve the welding speed with the running surface of the track head facing upward while the build-up material is continuously deposited onto the running surface of the track head.
