The invention provides a running board activated vehicle electric opening and closing member system. A motor vehicle may be equipped with a running board activated electrically powered opening and closing member system. A motorized opening or closing sequence of the opening and closing members may be initiated by activating a running board assembly of the motorized opening and closing member system in response to a user input. For example, user input may be provided by a limb of a user. In some embodiments, the running board assembly may include an integrated sensor for receiving user input. In other embodiments, the footrest assembly may be configured to function as a switch for receiving user input.
