The invention discloses mortar for an outer wall EPS (Expandable Polystyrene) decorative moulding and a preparation method of the mortar. The mortar is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by weight: 250 to 300 parts of cement, 300 to 400 parts of quartz sand, 5 to 10 parts of cellulose, 15 to 30 parts of composite smoothing agent, 50 to 100 parts of acrylic emulsion, 5 to 10 parts of basalt fiber, 5 to 8 parts of dispersing agent, 0.5 to 1.2 parts of foam stabilizer and 1000 to 1200 parts of water. The smoothness of the mortar is adjusted by adding the composite smoothening agent, the composite smoothening agent is formed by mixing starch ether and modified bentonite, and part of starch ether is connected between layers of the modified bentonite through high-speed stirring and blending to form the composite smoothening agent, so that the mortar is smooth and free of granular sensation when being smeared, and the constructability and the attractiveness of decorative lines are improved.
