The invention provides an ester polycarboxylic acid water reducer and a preparation method thereof, and relates to a concrete admixture technology. The ester polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 100 parts of methacrylic acid polyethylene glycol ester, 20 to 30 parts of unsaturated monomer, 0.7 to 2 parts of initiator, 0.1 to 0.4 part of reducing agent, 1 to 2 parts of chain transfer agent, 4 to 6 parts of sodium hydroxide and 180 to 200 parts of water. The water reducing agent has excellent water reducing performance and slump retaining performance, has good adaptability to different concrete raw materials, and can effectively solve the problems of poor cohesiveness, poor wrapping performance, slow flow velocity, segregation, bleeding and the like of concrete caused by material fluctuation and wide application of inferior materials. The preparation method adopts a one-step synthesis method, can effectively shorten the synthesis time, is simple in process, does not need harsh reaction conditions and equipment, saves the production cost, and can be used for large-scale production.
