A preparation method of a modified magnesia refractory material belongs to the technical field of refractory materials, and comprises the following steps: crushing and screening magnesite, mixing and grinding, and sieving to filter out grinding blocks to obtain magnesite powder; zirconia powder and manganese oxide powder are mixed, then oil-based mesophase pitch powder is added for coating and mixing, and a composite modifier is prepared; the preparation method comprises the following steps: adding a composite modifier into magnesite powder, carrying out primary modification heat treatment, and cooling to obtain modified isometric system periclase; adding coal-series spinning pitch powder into the modified isometric system periclase, uniformly mixing, performing secondary modification heat treatment, and finally performing post-treatment to obtain the modified magnesia. The composite auxiliary materials are reasonably proportioned, the microstructure of the magnesia is changed in an embedded crystallization manner, and the high-temperature creep property, the erosion resistance and the thermal shock stability of the magnesia are greatly improved.
