A vibratory hammer (1) for driving or withdrawing sheet piles, pipes or other elements into or from soil comprises a vibrating box (2). The clamp (17) is attached to the vibration box (2). The clamp (17) comprises a clamping jaw (18) for clamping a sheet pile or other element. The yoke (3) is connected to the vibratory box (2) by one or more vibration damping elements to suspend the vibratory hammer (1) from a hoisting cable or the like. In the vibrating case (2), an even number of eccentric weights arranged in pairs are rotatably mounted. The vibratory hammer comprises at least one synchronous electric motor (13A) for driving rotation of the eccentric weight.
