METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR NON-CONTACT OBSTACLE DETECTION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE HAVING A FRONT SIDE DOOR AND A REAR SIDE DOOR
The present invention provides a method and system for contactless obstacle detection of a motor vehicle (10) having a front side door (12) and a rear side door (14) using a single primary obstacle sensor (16), preferably in the form of a ToF sensor, provided on the motor vehicle, the main obstacle sensor (16) is configured to monitor an opening area (12o) of the front lateral vehicle door (12) and also to monitor an opening area (14o) of the rear lateral vehicle door (14) at least as long as the front lateral vehicle door (12) is closed, the method comprises the following steps performed repeatedly: determining a current maximum allowable opening angle ([alpha] max) of the rear side vehicle door (14) based on an output of monitoring of an opening area (14o) of the rear side vehicle door (14) by the main obstacle sensor (16) and taking into account a current opening state of the front side vehicle door (12).
