The invention provides yttrium-stabilized zirconium oxide nano-powder and a preparation method thereof.According to a hydrothermal synthesis method, a mixed solution of ammonia water, zirconium oxychloride and yttrium chloride is subjected to a reaction, nucleation and growth at high temperature and high pressure to form zirconium oxide crystal grains, then a yttrium-zirconium solid solution is generated in the calcination process to enable the crystals to form a metastable tetragonal phase or cubic phase, and the yttrium-stabilized zirconium oxide nano-powder is obtained. Therefore, the thermal shock resistance of zirconium oxide is improved. The zirconium oxide powder prepared by the method is high in purity, good in thermal shock resistance stability, narrow in particle size distribution, excellent in flowing property and suitable for preparing high-end ceramic parts such as medical beauty ceramics and electronic ceramics.
