The invention provides an ecological restoration structure for an open mining pit and application, and particularly relates to the technical field of solid waste treatment. The ecological restoration structure for the open mining pit comprises a foundation stratum, an impermeable layer, a backfilling area, a blocking layer and a vegetation restoration layer which are sequentially stacked from bottom to top. Wherein the backfilling area is filled with metal mine flotation tailings. According to the ecological restoration structure for the open mining pit, the impermeable layer and the blocking layer are adopted to seal the backfill area, rainwater is prevented from entering the backfill area, and flotation tailings are effectively blocked. The backfill area is filled with the flotation tailings as a matrix material, ecological restoration of the abandoned mining pit is completed, and meanwhile resource utilization is conducted on the solid waste tailings.
