The invention discloses an electric meter box and a meter reading method. The electric meter box comprises a box body, and a transmission mechanism is arranged on the upper side of the front end face of the box body; a meter reading mechanism convenient for recording data is arranged on the lower side of the front end surface of the box body; a protection assembly for protecting an operator is arranged in the box body; automatic opening and closing of the box door of the electric meter box are achieved through the transmission mechanism, automatic opening and closing of the box door are achieved through opposite and separated movement of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate on the conveying belt, and danger is prevented when the box door is manually opened; a glass panel on the surface of the electric meter is wiped through the cleaning frame while the box door moves, so that a meter reader can read the reading of the electric meter conveniently, and damage caused by electric leakage of the electric meter during manual wiping is avoided; the driving wheel is arranged to control the power switch of the electricity meter, when the box door is opened, the driving wheel touches the control button to turn off the power switch, the electricity meter is prevented from jumping again, the reading of meter reading is more accurate, and the safety during meter reading is improved.
