The invention discloses a water taking system and method for a high-altitude, large-longitudinal-slope and high-sand-content mountainous river. The system comprises a self-control self-priming pump, a desanding pretreatment system, a water collecting tank and a long-axis deep-well pump, a water suction pipe of the self-control self-priming pump extends into a river, a grid net is arranged on a water inlet of the water suction pipe, and the grid net is covered with a grid net; the self-control self-priming pump is communicated with the desanding pretreatment system through a water conveying pipeline so as to input river water into the desanding pretreatment system, the desanding pretreatment system is communicated with the water collecting tank, and the long-axis deep-well pump is arranged at the top of the water collecting tank and extends into the water collecting tank. The system can meet the water taking requirements under the conditions of high altitude, large sand content, large riverway longitudinal slope, large water flow speed and large fall of the water conveying pipeline, the sand content and water pump lift entering a factory area are greatly reduced, abrasion of a water pump impeller is reduced, water taking is stable, and the service life of equipment is prolonged.
